Total GRDI funding: $71,582
This project will contribute to a better understanding of the anaerobic oxidation of methane paradox in anaerobic environments of lake sediments in general and in response to the impacts of mining effluent on the geochemistry of the sediments of the receiving lake.
Such knowledge will have implications for improving global biogeochemical and climate projection models and for developing new sustainable approaches to mitigate the risks of climate change and to improve the resiliency of the Canadian mining sector in the fight against climate change. The knowledge will also help advance the environmental leadership of the Canadian natural resources sectors. This research will contribute to the protection of the environment and of ecosystems surrounding mining operations, thereby ensuring the safety of Canadians.
